TESOL 2015

A few weeks ago, I was able to attend the TESOL International Convention in Toronto, CA. This is the biggest annual event in my field, and it's a really good opportunity for professional development.

In order to get funding from my department, I have to present, and this year I was able to present in a venue that was new to me, called the Electronic Village. As you might imagine, the presentations here are focused on applying technology tools to teaching. A colleague and I shared some multimodal writing assignments we've used in our classes (you can find info about that on this website I set up, if you're interested: http://blogs.bgsu.edu/tesol15multimodal/). The presentation format was really laid back, almost like a poster presentation, so it was really low-stress. I think it went well, and I also learned a lot from the other sessions I attended.

The other highlight of this year's conference was getting to reconnect with people. It was basically a mini-reunion of folks from BG, and I unexpectedly ran into my teaching advisor from the University of Arizona (that was definitely the best surprise of the week!). Here are a few pics:
