Quick Update

In case any of you have been anxiously awaiting the grade on my first linguistics exam, I wanted to let you know that I got an A. This is good, because, as you may remember, the text was harder than I expected based on the review. (The class average was a 78%) Also, we've got our second test on Thursday, so it was nice to know that I did well on the first. I must admit that I've been frustrated by how slowly things are graded in this class. That test was on October 2nd! We just turned in a set of homework exercises today on one of the chapters that will be covered on the test. So, by the time we get the graded HW back, it will be (long) after the test. Which means that if I've made a mistake on the HW, I'm likely to make it again on the test. Hopefully, I didn't make any mistakes! I feel like it's reasonable for me to complain about the grading timeline; after all, I'm doing my own grading now, and if I can do forty-seven essays in a week, surely the TA for my Ling class could grade 40 exams in less than three weeks...At least it makes me feel good that I'm getting work graded and returned quickly.

On another note,
I wanted to post this lovely picture of the new stained glass window in my parents' entryway. Those of you who don't know, my dad's dad, Grandpa Mike, works with stained glass (he does woodworking, too). My mom has been keeping him busy making stained glass windows for their house. So far, there's a garden themed one in the family room, a tea themed one in the living room, an etched-glass pond scene in the study, and this one, the newest, in the entryway. My dad helps Grandpa Mike make the designs, and mom helps pick out the glass. Beautiful, isn't it? I can't wait to see it in person!
