WDW Epcot Highlights

I've already written about the Flower and Garden Festival, but not about the other aspects of Epcot. This park has two major sections: Future World and the World Showcase, as well as the best concentration of good food in WDW (more on that later).

Future World has one of my favorite rides, Spaceship Earth, which is inside the sphere that welcomes visitors to the park. There's a cute little customized, interactive activity to complete during the last part of the ride that always cracks me up.

There are also a couple of rides in this area that we had never ridden before. On an extra magic hours morning, we made it to Soarin' first thing, and while we enjoyed it, we weren't convinced that it lived up to all the hype. While in the area, we explored the other attractions nearby, including Living with the Land, which is a boat tour through a very interesting greenhouse, and The Seas with Nemo and Friends, which features a huge aquarium (this one we'd ridden before :-).

Another first for us was Test Track, where the ride vehicle goes around a track at speeds up to 65mph (which feels faster than it sounds!).

In the World Showcase, there are only two small-scale rides, the Maelstrom and the Gran Fiesta Tour (we rode both), but the main thing to do is explore the pavilions representing countries from around the world (Mexico, Norway, China, African Outpost, Germany, Italy, The American Adventure, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom, Canada). There are lots of great things to eat, shops, a few movies, and live entertainment. This part of the park is all about exploring and experiencing the cultural offerings. While it's certainly a world tour through rose-colored glasses, Disney's done a good job of creating a feeling of authenticity. One of the cool things about these areas is that most of the employees in each area are actually from that country. Although I didn't buy anything here, I really enjoy the window shopping and noticing all the details in the landscaping and architecture. My favorite live entertainment this year were the amazing acrobats in China. Here are some scenes from around the World Showcase.
