Bittersweet moment
I just had my last tutoring session with the Korean man I've been working with this semester. It's a long story, but despite working well together, he's switching to a new tutor. On one hand, I am glad this week was our last meeting, just so I have one less thing to do during the next couple weeks (although I am hoping to be able to start tutoring some new students over the summer). On the other hand, I'm also a little sad thinking about the fact that I may not see him again. He was a kind, hard-working student who really made my job easy! He seemed to be really happy with our lessons, and even brought me some small gifts: a key chain and bookmark from his university in Korea. It was very thoughtful. I think this is one of those things I'll have to get used to as a teacher--there will always be students I get attached to, but the term (whatever that may be) will end and we'll have to say our goodbyes. Thinking back to the teaching I did in ABQ at the BSU, I know a lot of wonderful students came and went, and I have a small collection of gifts from them, too. Well, I was just feeling a little emotional about this morning and thought writing would help...now I need to go grade some papers before my class.
